Public Tours of “The Birds” Schoolhouse in Bodega, California

Public tours of the “Birds Schoolhouse” in Bodega, California, will be offered on May 24 and September 6, 2015, at 10am, 11:30am and 1:30pm. Tickets are $25.00, with all proceeds to benefit the Sebastopol Community Cultural Center. Tickets may be purchased on line @ www.seb.org or by phone (707) 823-1511.

Historic Potter School, used by Hitchcock in “The Birds” is a Sonoma County Historic Landmark. The School was built in 1873 and held classes until fall of 1961. In 1962 Hitchcock used the condemned school as set for his classic thriller, “The Birds”. The Italianate structure sat vacant until 1966, when Taylors’ parents purchased the building to use as a home and art gallery.

Owner and resident Mary Leah Taylor, will host the hour-long tour. The viewing will include the downstairs classroom used in the movie and the upstairs living room once used as the community hall.

Taylor, who has lived in the old school off and on since 1970, will chronicle the history of the school, the filming of “The Birds” and personal experiences of documented paranormal phenomena.
